Throughout this week, I've come to learn the true relevance of Freddy Fender. In all honesty, all the time I've lived in San Benito, I only saw him as "the water tower guy," which isn't descriptive enough of the importance that he gives this town. A town so small such as San Benito is recognized many times only as Freddy Fender is mentioned, by older generations of people at least, as it is known that the people of my generation were never in touch with his music. However, the entitlement of his accomplishments to this town makes it imperative for its citizens to be aware of the vintage celebrity who made this town known.
